Make sure sleep is a priority

Teenagers hate sleeping for the most part. It’s easy to get into that naptime mentality when it feels like sleeping will only lead to you missing out on something important. Additionally, we live in an extremely fast-paced world and this can often lead to teens forgetting to take some time to slow down and rest. Make sure that your child knows that sleep is imperative if they want to be happy and healthy.

Don’t forget to breathe

There is not a lot of education on mental health and anxiety in schools these days. This often leads to teenagers feeling overwhelmed with no other way of expressing themselves than to act out. Teaching your teenager some breathing exercises for when they are feeling as though the weight of the entire world is on their shoulders can be extremely helpful.

Don’t schedule too much

Between school, sports teams and other extra curricular activities, teens seem to be just as busy as adults these days. Talking to your teenager about what their priorities are is important as it might lead to them freeing up some much-needed decompression time into their schedule. While it may be tempting for your teen to be involved in anything and everything available to them, this is not a healthy way to live.

Get some exercise

Exercise is one of the best ways people can naturally manage their stress. Staying active can not only improve depression symptoms but it can also decrease the amount of anxiety a person experiences on a daily basis.

Provide support

Being a loving a supportive parent, especially to a child who has severe anxiety is the most important thing you can do. It’s often easy for those who suffer from anxiety to feel hopeless and alone. Letting your child know that you are there for them and that they can rely on you no matter what they need will help to lessen their anxiety at least where the relationship between the two of you is concerned.
